What You Can Flush (and what should go in the trash instead)

4/10/2019

A lot of people treat their toilet like a garbage can. But just because you can flush it does not mean you should.

What's the number one thing you shouldn't flush down the toilet? Wipes - even if they are marked "flushable," they are a waste water contaminant. You can see the results in this video from Inside Edition.

Flush

Just remember for 4 p's:

Pee

Poop

Puke

Toilet Paper

That's it!

Don't Flush

Floss

Qtips

Contact Lenses

Prescription Drugs (release chemicals into water system)

Feminine products

Hair

Wipes (even so-called "flushable")

If it's not one of the 4 p's, it should go to the landfill (or be disposed of responsibly, in the case of prescription drugs). Following these guidelines helps keep our water system safe and healthy. It also protects your plumbing/septic from costly damage.
