Household Hazardous Waste, E-Waste Collection Events: March 18, April 22

2/28/2018

Residents of Butler County - looking for a safe, legal way to get rid of household hazardous waste or electronics? Butler County will hold Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste Collection events on March 18 and April 22 (Earth Day) at 129 Ash Stop Road in Evans City, Butler County.

Drop-off times are made only by appointment, by calling ECSR at 1-866-815-0016. You must call to schedule a drop-off time. Nominal fees apply for most items.

Household Hazardous Waste refers to home, garage, workshop, and garden goods or products which contain hazardous chemicals:

  • Weed killer
  • Fertilizer
  • Paint
  • Oven cleaner
  • Drain cleaner
  • Rat poison
  • Pesticides

E-Waste refers to electronic devices which contain heavy metals like arsenic, lead, and poly-brominated flame retardants:

  • Televisions
  • Computer monitors
  • Batteries
  • VCRs
  • Stereos
  • Cell phones
  • Printers, copiers and fax machines
  • Fluorescent bulbs
  • CFLs

"Why can't I just throw these things away?"

While safe for household use, these items, chemicals and products contain materials that can cause environmental damage if they enter our water system or leach into the soil. They must be handled differently from ordinary trash to keep our environment and our neighbors safe and healthy.

Remember: once you purchase a product, you are responsible for handling and disposing of it properly. Buy only what you need, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for proper use and handling.

We hope residents of Butler County will take advantage of the convenient collection events on March 18 and April 22. Thanks to the Board of Butler County Commissioners and grant funding from the PA Department of Environmental Protection for making these important events possible.
